Youth IcoN

Hoysala Kannada Koota (HKK) is pleased to announce the “HKK YOUTH ICON” program, formerly known as the HKK Scholarship. This is a merit-based program intended to recognize the talented and high-achieving students in our community.

 

Program Overview:

This is a merit-based program that awards $500.00 (subject to approval annually by HKK EC) to a student graduating from high school and pursuing college study. This annual award will be awarded to eligible and qualifying student(s). This will be a one-time award for an individual.

Eligibility:

  1. Children of HKK annual or life members are eligible to apply. Annual membership of the parent should be current while applying as well as while receiving the award.

  2. Graduating high school in the current year of application.

  3. With an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher.

  4. 40 hours of community service in high school, in which minimum 20 hours of service

    towards HKK

 

Application Deadline: March 15th, 2026

Selection: Selection of the awardee is primarily based on merit, determined by High School GPA and SAT scores (or equivalent ACT scores). External referees provide suggestions/decisions for the winner selection. The detailed procedure is outlined in the application. The Executive Committee (EC) holds the final authority regarding the total award amount to be distributed.

Application Process: The YOUTH ICON program will open every year (will be announced during the annual picnic as a reminder). Eligible students graduating high school will apply by Feb - March of the graduating year. Applicant will provide the GPA, and SAT/ACT scores and answer three simple questions. HKK Youth icon committee along with external referees review the applications and the winner will be chosen by the appointed external referees. Once the EC approves of the winner/candidate, Youth Icon will be awarded during the HKK Ugadi function.

 

Example: Students graduating in 12th grade in 2026, will apply to this award by March 15th, 2026. If selected will be awarded by April 2026.
